I am in an ocean of people who see things from different perspectives… some are on the beautiful sandy beach – combing the sand in awe and wonder at the God who created such a spectacular masterpiece. They bring out their picnic and laugh cheerfully at sandcastles and children with grand designs..
Some are testing the water, is it cold? Is it safe? They wonder how deep they should wade in, but in fear and trepidation they turn away… it’s just too much. They remember the last time the took the plunge, their breath was taken away, they almost drown and well, the memories… it’s just too much…
Some are barely keeping their head above water. They are overwhelmed by the roaring waves; they echo the words of Jesus and cry ‘peace, be still…’ but there is no respite and they are sinking and the water is out of control! Every time the waves crash over them it seems more difficult to regain strength to take another breath.
They are so consumed with the waves that they can no longer see the lifeguard. However, he is there, he sees them and he takes their hand. He reminds them that they are safe in his hands. They feel battle weary and cry out to him… ‘why did you take so long?’ ‘Why would you let me struggle?’
He whispers ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness
He carries them to safety… they point to the people on the beach and asks. Why didn’t they help me?
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD
But they let me down when I needed them…
The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
Where are you today? If you are one of many who find themselves in the raging waves, wondering when your rescuer will come, remember those words above taken from Corinthians and Jeremiah and Hebrews.
The Lord is faithful and He will make sense of everything. Meaninglessness is a lie. You have a purpose and your rescuer is near. The waves cannot overtake you unless their conductor orchestrates them to do so…
We are often tossed and turned by the waves but ‘The Lifeguard’ is on His way. If you feel that you have no ability to even take another breath, the ‘Life Giver’ will breathe for you… You are safe in His arms.
Even when you cannot see Him, He is there.
