Psalm 26 v 16 reads:

Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.

Loneliness is a difficult thing to face… We immediately think of widows or those without friends, however I know of widows that say they are never lonely because they have Jesus. He is a great source of companionship to one particular man who we know, a dear 75 year old who is also a widower.

I know of people who are lonely in their marriages. How can this be? Sometimes an unequally yoked marriage can be an incredibly lonely walk, how could you share the loveliness of Jesus and His amazing grace in your life if your spouse, the one who is joined to you physically, is not interested or even worse – antagonistic?

There are also Christian marriages where there are serious problems and yet because they are Christians, they find it impossible to share with others outside of the marriage, and yet the lines of communication between them have broken down. This is an incredibly lonely and sad place to be.

In Psalm 26 we hear the cry to God for His help. Where else can you go when you are lonely and afflicted?

Our great God knows your frame, your struggles, your pain. He is your everlasting companion. For those walking a lonely path, our hearts call out to God – our true companion like Paul does in Philippians 4:

Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

Whatever your need is today, whether loneliness in marriage, a family, or through lack of Christian companionship, call out to your true companion. Pray that you:

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Praying this for precious sisters in Christ who need to know this peace today. Jesus will provide for your every need.
